Abstract
Surrogacy, as a practice has various shades and is one of the debated issues. Even in practice, we can see that there are countries like Ukraine and Russia that allow commercial surrogacy, and countries like Italy that even prohibit commercial surrogacy but allow altruistic surrogacy. India has also brought a similar perception of prohibiting commercial surrogacy while allowing altruistic surrogacy in its newly proposed Bill. Even within these controversies lies a debate in terms of health risks, ethical issues, social dimensions and legal aspects. With the directives set out by the Supreme Court of Nepal, it is essential to look into these controversies and what are the aspects that need to be looked into in terms of prospective legislation. This article sets out to portray the debate that surrounds surrogacy and assays the status and aspects of the regulations of surrogacy.
